Today's Photo of the day was taken at the Red Apple Farm. I love the lighting of this photo. The curly tendrils coming off the stem that had been previously cut from the vine is so pretty. Thinking back I wish I had bought this pumpkin ... so cute. :)

I love the individuality of gourds. Like people gourds come in all shapes and sizes, which is what makes the world wonderfully perfect!

This picture was taken this past weekend at the Red Apple Farm ... Love that place. All should take a trip there, especially with kids.

Hello and happy Columbus Day! I hope everyone had a great weekend! This Saturday my husband and I went to the Red Apple Farm in Tempelton MA. What a wonderful place. There are pumpkin patches, apple orchards, hay rides and food cooked on an outdoor fire pit. What could be better than that? We spent most of the day in search of a pumpkin we unfortunately came home empty handed because we just couldn't decide on one but I did get to snap this lovely fall photo that I look forward to framing and hanging on my wall for years to come during the fall months. :) Enjoy and tell me your thoughts.

Happy middle of the week! 3 day weekend ahead! Hopefully everyone has some great plans. The weather in Massachusetts is going to be absolutely unseasonably beautiful. So I hope to get out and take loads of picture to share with you soon! I have been behind on a couple of my photos of the day so I am sitting down tonight to get one out for you. Photo Story: This September we celebrated our first wedding anniversary. In celebration we went to one of our favorite little getaways, located in Portsmouth, NH. We went for a weekend getaway and Saturday afternoon was such a beautiful day we had to get out and walk around. We strolled through Strawberry Banks and came to  the ocean. We were overlooking people setting up their boats along the boat slips. I looked directly across from me and this seagull was just waiting for me to capture him. He looked so stoic perched on the top of the boat slip with an old sail boat behind him. Thankfully, just as I snapped this image he turned his head as if to accept the photo. I love it and the colors. The sky looks as if to be painted behind him. So at last here is the photo of the day! Please take a look.

Photo of the Day: Tree Sky

One day in late May or early June it was a beautifully warm day in Leominster, MA. It was a Saturday and Jim and I were looking for something to do. We decided to go out on a search for Rocky Pond. It was mentioned to my husband by a family friend. He thought that he could find some great fish in this hidden pond. We knew the trail to take and that it was "2 miles" from the entrance of the trail. So we set out on the search for Rocky Pond. 

Well, long story short we found this pond. The only problem was there really wasn't any easy access to it from where we were ... So after losing two fishing lures in the weeds and being chased around by hornets we decided to leave. It was however, a beautiful location on such a beautiful day. While we were returning from the pond I looked up and had to snap the photo of these lovely trees with the contrast of the beautiful blue and white sky. The only sadness in this photo is some of the tips of these trees have been destroyed by the ice storm that hit Leominster and surrounding towns a few years back. But it still makes for a beautiful image. So here it is, my photo of the day.

Morning Photography Lesson

Want to learn something about photography this morning? I woke up this morning and discovered the timeline of the history of photography. One thing I also learned today was that the word "photography" came from the greek words photos which means "light," and graphein which means "to draw."Pretty interesting. Below is a snippet from the National Geographic website that gives you a timeline and images of the history of photography. You should take a look by clicking on the link ... Very interesting. 1826: First Permanent Image: French inventor Joseph Nicéphore Niépce uses a camera obscura to burn a permanent image of the countryside at his Le Gras, France, estate onto a chemical-coated pewter plate. He names his technique "heliography," meaning "sun drawing." The black-and-white exposure takes eight hours and fades significantly, but an image is still visible on the plate today. As talked about in a previous photo of the day, this past summer my family and I went down to North Carolina to spend time on the Outer Banks in celebration of my parents 25th Anniversary. What an awesome time. My husband, brother and father would spend every morning and evening doing what they do best, Fishing the ocean. They had so much fun and all looked so relaxed. The fish were also very yummy! 

This photo of the day was snapped of my little brother (who hates getting pictures taken) even though he isn't looking at the camera it captures the joy he is experiencing as the waves crash against his legs and as he anticipates the bite of the fish. I love the slight reflection in the water just before the wave coming towards it blurs it out. I also like how the focal point (my brother) is not in the center of the photo exposing the next wave showing the never ending energy the ocean possesses. Take a look. Have a good night all!

The Future of Photography

Happy Saturday everyone. My Saturday appears to be gloomy and rainy. ::BLAH:: I guess this means no beautiful fall pictures at the farm or the winery today. What to do on this rainy weekend? I started off this morning reading articles about photography and where it has been and where it is now. One thought I had when reading this article was that photography like artwork has and always has been reactive commentary on the world from past, present and future. Images from the past and now reflect all of these and they will continue to do so.
